The education we received taught children to be upstanding Chinese, but never taught us how to truly be people of the tribe. When committed teachers use the traditional values of the community to educate the next generation, unfriendly policy leaves this group of skilled teachers, who also carry the knowledge of their communities, facing crises from within and without.
